The club is a non-profit making organisation, dedicated to the organisation of hill walking and occasionally climbing, trips. Most tend to be on the Scottish Munros (the 284 3,000 foot plus hills), but we also walk abroad (e.g. the Lake District, Snowdonia and the Italian Apennines). We are open to suggestions for other foreign trips. And yes, many of us are the dreaded “baggers” or “tickers” who set out to climb all the Munros, it’s just that we are not psychotic about it !

The club membership is made up of a variety of people ranging from children to adults in their 50s. The majority tend to be 30/40-something. Due to the way the club was formed, most members have a medical background, whether as health board staff, doctors, nurses, practice managers etc. We are very sociable, enjoying a good banter on the hills. While we do carry out the necessary organisation side of things, we do try to be informal, relaxed and cheerful.

We seek to provide walks of all grades, to suit members ranging from the less fit beginner to the experienced hill-walker. Each walk is graded Hard (H), Moderate (M) or Easy (E). We will attempt to run easier walks for those who feel this would be more suitable for them. The club organises basic navigation training, first-aid, basic rock-climbing course (at the Glasgow Climbing Centre in Ibrox), Winter-skills and walk leader training for interested members.

A number of our members are very experienced walkers, some with Mountain Leader training. As part of the clubs dedication to safety on the hills, we will be supporting some of our regular members in formal Mountain Leader training. There is always at least one “Walk Leader” on each outing. Usually there will be one at the front, with another shepherding those at the rear. We try to take a responsible position over safety on walks.

We have yet to compile a FAQ list. Any queries you make will be added in due course.
